The growth and trade in the communites in the Nile

The growth and trade alone the Nile

  • communities began to appear in 6000 b.c:
  • farming began to appear in both Egypt and Nubia somtime around 5000b.c
  • communities grew, trade also expanded
  • their houses were made out of brick and mud
  • Unlike the communities of the fertile Crescent that settled after taking up agricultures, the Nubians formed settlements befor they began to farm.


Living along the Nile:

  • Egypts early farming communities settled in the delta and valley regions of the Nile
  • delta's were built in fertile river beds
  • To the south, in upper Egyrt, people build scattered farming villages along the Nile.
  • Because of the shortage of farmland, Nubians added to their diet by fishing in the Nile and hunting duckes and other birds along its bankes.
A highway for trade:

  • the Nile was used to transport goods
  • they traded goods in the north and south, even with civilizations along the Mediteranian Sea
  • they traded goods ,silver and fine pottery
  • Valuable goods such as ceader from the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea and gold from Nubian were sold in the bazaars of Egypt's towns.

Routes through Nubia

  • because of the characters people could not travel through Nubia, they traveled by boat
  • Nubians became famous traders in the ancient world
  • They carried goods from central Africa and Nubia into Egypt and Southwestern Asia and brought that other goods back.
  • One Nubian caravan that traveled into Egypt had 300 donkeys.
